SUSTAINABLE LIVESTOCK FARMING, DAIRY PRODUCTION
Attività
Areas of Scientific Expertise
By-products in rabbit feeds
The valorisation of agri food sector by-products as raw material for rabbits feeds with the aim to optimize productions, reduce the dependency from conventional raw materials, and decrease the cost of rabbit feeds.
Bioactive compounds for rabbits
The utilisation of natural products (probiotics, essential oils, antioxidants, …) to improve production and health status of growing rabbits. Insects as protein for fish and poultry Trials aimed to test insect meals to substitute conventional protein sources. In particular, the aspects related to the influence on performances, product quality, and welfare are of major concern.
Meat quality
Study of the nutritive and qualitative aspects of meat and processed products. Fish health and welfare Evaluation of xenobiotics effects on fish health and welfare.
Reduction of GHG and ammonia gas production
Study of new feed additives to reduce animal and manure gas production, recycling renewable sources and enhancing natural biological cycles Feeding strategies to reduce nutrient excretion Increase the ruminant and no-ruminant feed efficiency to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus environmental release.
Forage systems and Dairy Farm sustainability
Improvement of production of Grana Padano PDO through control of the supply chain and the optimization of production processes from dairy farm to cheese making; Improving the nutritional quality and food safety and microbiological contamination of the dairy supply chain in Piemonte.
Milk production and quality
Improvement of milk quality through enriched n-3 supplements in dairy cattle, goat and sheep diets.
Livestock farming systems in mountain environment
Sustainability of livestock farming systems in the alpine region and characteristics of local products.
